Guccio Gucci's Vision
The story of Gucci began in 1921 when Guccio Gucci, a former hotel porter, opened a small leather goods shop in Florence, Italy. Inspired by the exquisite craftsmanship and luxurious luggage he had seen while working in London and Paris, he decided to create his own high-quality products. His shop initially offered saddles, riding accessories and other high-quality leather goods.

"Few fashion houses possess as much history, heritage and, not least, style as Gucci. We would like to celebrate that at Grade A Copenhagen."
Jesper Svarer, Founder Grade A Copenhagen
Expansion and next generation
In the 1930s and 1940s, Guccio Gucci's sons, Aldo, Vasco and Rodolfo, began to play a more prominent role in the company. They expanded the range to include luxury handbags, shoes and gloves. During World War II, when leather became a scarce resource, the Gucci family showed their creativity by introducing the "bamboo bag", which was made with bamboo handles - an iconic style that is still popular today.
International Recognition
In the 1950s and 1960s, Gucci achieved international recognition. The brand became a favorite choice of Hollywood stars and royalty, helping to cement its status as a symbol of glamour and prestige. The famous green-red stripe, inspired by saddle straps, was introduced during this period and quickly became one of Gucci's most recognizable trademarks.
Turbulent Times and Rebirth
The 1970s and 1980s were marked by both success and strife within the Gucci family. Conflicts between family members led to financial difficulties and a weakening of the brand's exclusive image. In the 1990s, under the creative direction of Tom Ford, Gucci experienced a remarkable rebirth. Ford's bold and sensual designs regained the brand's status as one of the world's leading fashion houses.
Modern Times and Global Expansion
Today, Gucci continues to be at the forefront of the fashion world under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele, who took the helm in 2015. Michele has reinvented Gucci with his eclectic and bold style that appeals to a new generation of fashion lovers. His designs, which often combine classic elements with modern and avant-garde details, have helped ensure that Gucci remains relevant and sought-after on the global stage.
Today, Gucci is more than just a fashion house; it is a cultural phenomenon that influences and inspires people all over the world. With a heritage rich in innovation, craftsmanship and creativity, Gucci continues to define and redefine luxury fashion.
